Christmas in July

Hi! It's Christmas in July at My Scrap Chick and I made some cute little ornaments for my project. Since it's Christmas in July I decided to use a file that is usually associated with summer,
Birdhouse Trio and some cute little snowman bird lover files, Snowman Winter Welcome and Snowman-Bird Lover.

Birdhouse Trio: click to enlarge

Snowman Winter Welcome: click to enlarge

Snowman - Bird Lover: click to enlarge

MATERIALS LIST

 plastic clear ornament
various Christmas cardstocks,
 small white pom poms
3/8 inch ribbon or trim to match papers
1 inch to 1 1/2 inch sheer wired Christmas ribbon
1/8 inch wide ribbon or cord
glue
super glue

Since I didn't have any glass or plastic Christmas balls that open, and I live 100 miles from a decent craft store, I made do with what I had. Hubby took a Dremil tool and cut the plastic ornaments I had in half. We added two lines of masking tape with a small space between them as a cutting guide. This also cut down on chipping of the ornament.

Once they were cut in half I used an emery board to file off any rough edges.

I made each short birdhouse box about 2 1/2 inches tall. Each snowman is 1 1/2 inches tall. Each snowman was attached to a birdhouse with a foam dot, then the houses were attached to one half of the ornament with Super Glue at the bottom corners. The two halves of the ornament were then glued back together with Super Glue. The seam was covered with a 3/8 inch wide piece of ribbon or trim. About 25 pom poms were added to each ornament to represent snow, then the top of the ornament was put back on. A big bow was tied around the top of the ornament and a hanging loop was added using 1/8 inch ribbon.

This was a really fun project. I'm sorry the pictures aren't better.
Thanks for stopping by. I'd love to hear what you think.

Merry Christmas in July!

Patriotic Star Wreath

Hi! Happy Flag Day! I have a weakness for anything patriotic so I decided to make this patriotic star wreath.

I used Storybook Wreath and Star Studded Circle from My Scrap Chick for my Wreath.

Since I want to put this in the window of my front door, I wanted it to look good from both sides.

MATERIALS

MY Scrap Chick files used: Storybook Wreath and Star Studded Circle
Red tagboard
Vintage Nation  by The Paper Studio
Blue cardstock by Bazil
2 inch wired ribbon in white/red
1 inch patriotic wired ribbon
Blue and clear gem stars by Jots
small star punch
Blue pearls by Jots
Tape runner, glue, hot glue

The wreath base is 11 1/2 inches and was cut from tagboard and heavy cardstock. I used the Star Studded Circle for the base because I wanted the back to look good. The gem stars fit perfectly in the cut out star spaces  It would work also just to use the base included with the Storybook Wreath.

I cut out the pieces for the stars and the bases using several prints from the Vintage Nation Paper Stack. I followed the directions included with the file, and used tape runner and glue on the seams, and held it all together with paper clips while it dried.

When the stars were dry, I held them like this, and gently pushed in until the center popped out.

The stars were attached with a glue gun, evenly spaced around the wreath. I took the red stars cut from the Star Studded Circle and added one to the center of each 3-d star. I then added a small punched star in the center of the red stars, then added a blue pearl.

I used the wider ribbon to create a bow and the narrow ribbon to create a loop. These were attached to the back with hot glue.

I hope you like my patriotic wreath! I would love to hear what you think, so please leave a message.

Strawberry Basket

It's strawberry season, and who doesn't love red, ripe strawberries? You can share your love of strawberries by making a cute basket filled with life sized strawberry boxes that you can fill with strawberry flavored candy.

I used Fence Box for the basket and Fresh Strawberry Box for the strawberries.

Fence Box: click to enlarge                                      Fresh Strawberry Box: click to enlarge

I also used Fairy Bears Garden for the strawberry houses on the tag.

Fairy Bears Garden: click to enlarge

Materials

Fence Box, Fresh Strawberry Box  and Fairy Bears Garden files from My Scrap Chick
"Hello Love" stack from Crate Paper (strawberries)
"Samantha Rose" from DCWV ( basket)
Cardstock by Coredinations
1 3/8 wide fruit themed ribbon by Offray
tape runner, foam tape and large glue dots
raffia

The basket was made 4 inches square from a  wood print. The horizontal slats were attached with foam tape to add dimension. The label on the front is 2 3/4 inches in diameter. The strawberry houses are approximately 1 1/2 by 1 3/8 inches. The label is attached with foam tape. I made two, four inch bows and attached them with large glue dots at the base of the handle on each side. I used raffia for straw in the basket.

The strawberries were sized way down so the bottom part was about 1 3/4 inches. The whole strawberry is about 2 inches, not counting the stem. Follow the tutorial, and have patience and take your time. These little boxes are a little tricky to make. I used a combination of tape runner and glue, and paper clips to hold them together while they dried. I made seven little strawberry boxes.

It took a little bit of work, but I'm really pleased how they turned out.

I'd love to hear how you like my strawberry basket. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Have a "berry" nice day!
